Course Details
This course is aimed at anyone who uses work equipment as part of their role or has responsibilities for selecting, managing, or maintaining equipment in the workplace.
It will provide attendees with a clear understanding of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) and the legal requirements for ensuring equipment is safe to use.
The course will give delegates practical insight into identifying hazards, carrying out basic equipment checks, and implementing safe systems of work.
This course will not provide detailed maintenance or inspection certification but will equip delegates with the knowledge to work safely and comply with PUWER regulations. Competency certificate will be issued.

- Introduction to PUWER regulations
- Legal responsibilities and duty holders
- Types of work equipment covered by PUWER
- Risk assessment and hazard identification
- Safe use of work equipment
- Inspection and maintenance requirements
- Guarding and safety devices
- Training and competence requirements
- Common hazards and accident prevention
- Lockout / tagout (LOTO) awareness
- Documentation and record keeping
Choice of Plant and Equipment from:
Single or triple wacker
Cembre, Rotormag, Rotor Broach drill
Abrasive Chop Saw (Use and Wheel Mounting)
Grinders 7” – 12” Use and wheel mounting / depressed centre and flat, including flap discs and sanding mount
Tirfor winch including ground anchor
Handheld drills – battery and powered
Impact wrench – various types, including use with a torque amplifier.
Breakers – Hilti and Atlas Copco Petrol or Powered
Portable Generators / safe set-up and use
Rebar Tying tools
Handheld – Powered Nibblers, Chasers and Shears
Die Grinders including flexible heads
Auto feed Drywall or Screwdriver equipment
Gas Cutting – Propane or Acetylene (Safe set-up and use)
Abrasive Wheel Regulations (fixed and portable machines)
Torque Wrench / MJI no’s etc
Entry Criteria:
No formal qualifications required.
Suitable for beginners, supervisors, and those requiring a refresher.
