Course Details
Delegates completing a CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection training course will be able to;
- Identify and inspect tubes, boards, ladders, gin wheels, ropes and fittings correctly
- State the main requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the Work at Heights Regulations 2005 and codes of practice relating to scaffolding
- Identify the construction requirements common to all scaffolds to include which includes foundations, scaffold framework, TG20 compliant scaffold and permissible additions, work platforms, handrails, toeboards, safe access and egress
- Carry out inspections and fault identification on access scaffolds
- Complete and maintain reports in accordance with current statutory provision
Course Contents:
A CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection training course includes:
- Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Work at Height Regulations 2005 Regulations and Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPs).

- Means of access
- Raising and lowering materials
- Scaffold ties Industry performance standards
- Design appreciation
- TG20 erection tolerances
- TG20 compliance sheets
- Role of an inspector
- Practical inspection
- Reports
Eligibility:
Delegates must have awareness and experience of scaffolding structures, which would have come from time spent in their individual industry sector e.g., construction, engineering, manufacturing, petrochemical, oil and gas etc. Individuals who meet at least one of the following, will be deemed to have met the entry criteria:
- Holds a current CISRS Scaffolder card.
- Holds a current CISRS Advanced Scaffolder card.
- Holds a current CISRS Scaffolding Supervisor card.
- Holds a current or expired CISRS Basic Inspection card and is attending the course to renew their card.
Individuals not holding one of these CISRS cards will be required to submit Delegate Entry Check Form with contactable references and or/certificates, incorporating a declaration from an employer confirming their awareness and experience of scaffolding structures gained via their role within industry and confirmation that the delegate has had a minimum of 2 years of experience in this role.

- Engineer
- Site Agent/Manager
- H&S Manager
- HSE Inspector
- Scaffolding Inspector who has previously attended a non CISRS Scaffold Inspection/Awareness course at least 2 years before the start of the CISRS Basic SITS course.
Delegates who do not have any previous knowledge or experience of scaffolding will not be eligible to attend this course. Individuals in this position would be advised to consider attending a general scaffold appreciation/awareness course and then obtain the required experience and/or qualifications as outlined above prior to committing to inspection training.
Delegates must have successfully completed a CITB Health and Safety and Environment Test within 2 years prior to attending the Basic CISRS SITS course or alternatively hold an accepted Health and Safety exemption (listed on the CISRS website).
Please note that this CISRS course provides the delegate with the necessary knowledge to inspect Basic Structures. It is the responsibility of their employer to demonstrate that the delegate has subsequently gained the relevant practical experience following the course before they can be deemed competent.
